The British Indian Ocean Territory, also known as BIOT, is a British overseas territory located in the Indian Ocean, between Tanzania and Indonesia, below the Maldives. Since 1976, the BIOT still only consists of the six main islands of the Chagos Archipelago, with the largest island being Diego Garcia. Diego Garcia has a British-American military base. Although it is a British territory, the currency used is the US Dollar. There are no roads on the islands, and people mainly get around by bicycle.
