What can I expect?
Questionnaire
Before your appointment, please fill out the medical questionnaire using the link you received via email.
Laboratory tests
We will take urine and blood samples to test for elements such as blood cells, protein, glucose, drugs, and alcohol.
Physical and psychological examination
We will assess both your physical and mental health. This includes a physical examination and a psychological assessment.
Results
A doctor will review the results of the medical examination. You and your new employer will receive a fitness declaration indicating whether you are fit for the role or not.

How should I prepare?
The examination includes a medical questionnaire and a series of tests, including blood, urine, and physical examinations.
There should be no traces of drugs or alcohol in your blood or urine, so please be careful with using perfume, aftershave, and deodorant.
During the physical examination, the doctor will ask you to undress (except for your underwear). For this reason, we offer you the option of having an additional assistant present. Please wear comfortable clothing and underwear that you feel at ease in during the examination.
If you would prefer not to attend the examination alone, you are welcome to bring someone with you. If you would like an assistant to be present during the physical examination, please let us know at least two weeks in advance at: [email protected].

What should I bring?
- A valid form of identification.
- If you wear contact lenses and/or glasses, make sure to bring them along, including all accessories (contact lens solution, case, spare glasses, etc.), as well as your glasses prescription from the optician. Even if you don't wear your glasses all the time, please bring them. Avoid wearing night lenses for three nights prior to the examination.
- If you have any medical conditions, please bring all relevant information from your general practitioner or medical specialist.
- If you are taking any medications, whether prescription or over-the-counter (such as pills, tablets, suppositories, liquids, drops, creams, or ointments), please bring the names, dosages, and/or the package leaflet.
Note: Failing to bring any of the above items may delay your examination and, consequently, your fitness certificate.

Questionnaire
Before your appointment, please complete the medical questionnaire using the link you received via email.
Laboratory tests
The laboratory tests consist of two components:
- Urine Test: During the examination, you will be asked to collect your urine in a sample container in the restroom. Your urine will be tested immediately for the presence of blood cells, protein, and glucose, and then sent to the laboratory for testing for drugs and alcohol.
- Blood test: Three vials of blood will be drawn to test for blood count, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, glucose, and alcohol levels.

Physical examination
After the laboratory tests, a physical examination will be conducted by a medical assistant and a doctor.
Tests conducted by the medical assistant
- Height, weight, and blood pressure measurement
- Vision test at 6 meters, 1 meter, and 40 cm distance
- Color vision test
- Stereopsis test (depth perception)
- Resting ECG (electrocardiogram) for individuals over 40 years old
- Hearing test (audiometry)
Examination by the doctor
The doctor will discuss your medical situation with you based on the questionnaire and the results from the examination.
Next, a physical examination will be performed. The doctor will ask you to undress (except for your underwear). If you are uncomfortable with this, you may request that an assistant remains present during the examination. If you want to make use of this option, please let us know at least two weeks in advance at: [email protected].
The doctor will ask you several questions to rule out an inguinal hernia. This is important due to the risk of entrapment during pressure changes. You will be asked to stand and blow on your hand while the doctor checks for any visible swelling in the groin area. If there is any doubt about the presence of a swelling, physical examination by touch may be necessary, but your underwear will remain on at all times. If an inguinal hernia is suspected, you will be referred to your general practitioner.
Additional physical examinations may occur if this is indicated based on the doctor's assessment, and this will always be discussed with you first.

Psychological examination
In addition to a physical examination, you will also undergo a psychological assessment. This will be conducted at Villa Uitzicht.
You will receive a separate invitation for this. The results of this assessment will be sent to KLM Health Services within two weeks.

Results
Once all test results are in, the doctor will assess them. Both you and your new employer will receive the outcome indicating whether you are fit for the role or not.
You will receive a fitness certificate, and your employer will receive a copy of this. Please note that no medical details will be included in this document.
Need further medical examination or information?
If additional medical examination or information is required, the results of the examination cannot be provided immediately. In this case, the examination will be placed 'on hold' and resumed at a later moment. You will be informed about the next steps.

Vaccination(s) required?
Did you know that you can also receive the necessary vaccinations at our Travel Clinic at Schiphol-Oost on the day of your examination? It's convenient! Please make an appointment in advance for this service.
