Mali is completely cut off from the sea. The surrounding countries of Mali are Mauritania, Algeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea and Senegal.
The north of the country has a desert climate and there is practically no rainfall all year round. The southern part of the country has sufficient rainfall to enable agriculture. The rainy season in the south is from May to October. From time to time there are droughts that further complicate farming.
